The Table Read Interview Written by JJ Barnes

I interviewed the band Kick Pistol about their music, what inspires them, and their performances.

An Interview with KJAG Radio

‘Apparitions’ is the latest single from, St.Albans duo, Kick Pistol. Wearing it’s influences very much on it’s sleeve, the track echoes of Muse and Radiohead with its sub gothic sound. Originally formed by a group of school friends in 2016, Kick Pistol take their influences from groups such as Muse and Radiohead.

The band consists of Robert Sheppard and Ernie Wybrow. They have played at front of crowds locally and afar such as The O2 Academy Islington, The infamous Dublin Castle Camden and The Horn St Albans. Their first studio recorded single “Because You Know” was released in May 2018 which then later inspired them to release a self-titled EP. Departing with their drummer of 5 years would derail many bands, instead KP kicked on and ‘Apparitions’ is the proof that all is well within the camp.

Wilkstock was amazing!

We had such an incredible time today playing The Bella Stage of Wilkestock 2019!

The crowd were amazing and we absolutely loved it on stage.

It was also such an honour to play amongst so many brilliant bands!

We thank everyone involved and hope to be back very soon to this amazing festival.

Big thanks to Juicebox and also The Horn St Albans for organising Battle of the Bands which enabled us to play at this prestigious festival, now in it’s 12th year!

M Festival was incredible!

What a fantastic day we had at M Festival. Not only was it Ernie and Rob’s farewell to Marlborough Science Academy, but it was also a great experience playing to over 3,000 people.

Pragmatic, Unobtainable, Glass Cage and, Ernie took to the mic to cover Boys Don’t Cry by The Cure!

Ex band member, Tom Vincent joined us later in the evening for a rendition of Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now!

Thanks for having us and perhaps we may be back in the near future – you never know!

We’re in the semi finals – Battle of the Bands at The Horn!

The band were thrilled to win their semi-final of St Albans’ The Horn Pub Battle of the Bands on Wednesday 6th June.

Kick Pistol faced really tough competition from Greek Tragedies, Twisted State of Mind and Clockwork Sky who had all won their previous heats.

There was a great crowd in attendance and favourits such as “Because You Know” and “Pragmatic” were well received by old fans and new.

Robert, Ernie and Neta would like to thank everyone who came along to support them.

The finals will be taking place at The Horn, St Albans on Thursday 15th August, so please make a date in your diary now and get your tickets here

A Weekend of Gigs at Ye Olde Fighting Cocks

Wow! What a weekend! We played a set at Ye Olde Fighting Cocks with Empty Events on the evening of Friday 24th May along with Kevee Lynch and the Skomads, Cova and Blue Hour. The pub was packed and it was a fantastic atmosphere.

We returned on the Saturday for the debut of the YOFC Music Festival with Empty Events again. It was a gorgeous sunny day, the pub garden was absolutely heaving, and we had a blast playing our original tracks as well as a great Muse number to the fantastic crowd.

Kick Pistol Sign with Nub Music!

Back in October 2018, we were thrilled to be signed by Nub Music! A fantastic achievement for a group of 15 year olds!

The Nub Music roster consists of classic legends and cutting edge new music and includes Modern Romance, The Pocket Gods, Ben Holland, Larry Weiss, Flaunt, Lazar, Billie Jo Spears, The Boy From Space, Arthur ‘Big Boy’ Cruddup, The Low Countries, Kick Pistol, Kill The Giants and SKA band Sko-Mads!

The Marlborough Science Academy Battle of The Bands 2019

What a fantastic night and what a way to end our time at Marlborough Science Academy!

Battle of the Bands! We played alongside amazing talent from all ages at the school.

The show was set up to showcase the fantastic music that develops at Marlborough, and to give some of those bands and singers the opportunity to play at MFest – now in it’s 10th year!

Kick Pistol have had the pleasure of playing at MFest for a fair few years now and we are truly honoured to announce that we will be playing a 20 minute evening set on the main stage to thousands of people on 6th July 2019!

Get your tickets now at www.themfestival.co.uk and come and see us!

Big thanks to Marlborough for all their help and support over the years – special thanks to Mr and Mrs Gustafson, Miss Haines, Mr Earley, Mr Billington and Mr Scurr.

New Guitar!

Today we went to Denmark street, London to get some new music gear. While there, Ernie bought a new ’72 Custom Fender Telecaster with Bigsby Tremolo and a few new pedals to add to his board! The guitar and pedals will definitely be making appearances at our upcoming gigs, so don’t miss out!

Farr Brew Beer Festival with Empty Events

We had a great time playing 5 originals and one cover (Creep by Radiohead) at Farr Brew’s Beer Festival on Saturday as part of Empty Events.  The rain didn’t keep people away and we loved playing through the massive downpour as well!

Farr Brew was a fantastic venue – set in the middle of farmland there were two bars – a cosy inside one proudly displaying all the different ales, ciders and beers that Farr Brew brew onsite, as well as an outside bar.

The team put on a BBQ and the crowd gathered.

Thanks for having us – we’d definitely love to play at your venue again soon!
